What is Micro-Needling and how does it work?
The body’s ability to heal itself is at the heart of this amazing process. Our skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. The healing process includes the release of growth factor, new epidermal growth, deposition of collagen and elastin and skin tightening. With micro-needling, small punctures are made in the skin to encourage the onset of the healing process. The production of new collagen can reverse years of sun damage, address fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone, texture, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, and stretch marks.
What can I expect from a Micro-Needling procedure?
Those undergoing treatments with a shorter needle will only feel a tickling sensation. However, patients undergoing treatment with the full 2.5mm, are offered numbing creams as an option for discomfort. After the procedure your skin may be red and flushed in similar to a moderate sunburn. You may experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to the touch. These side effects will diminish greatly in a few hours and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed.
What are the benefits of a Micro-Needling?
Visible results are generally seen 6-8 weeks after treatment and improve over time. Micro-needling is especially effective for aging concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds and crows feet. General lack of skin radiance and tightness can also be improved with needling treatments. In some studies, micro-needling has been shown to be as effective as ablative treatments such as Fraxel, IPL, Laser Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels at a fraction of the cost.
Are there any side effects or risks associated with the treatment?
Micro-needling does not involve injections therefore allergic reactions and/or side-effects are unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves little to no downtime, healing is rapid and it requires only simple after-care. Side effects experienced will usually subside within 48 hours. Side effects include red or pinkish skin, stinging, itching or tightness of the treated area. Be sure to adhere to any aftercare instructions to enhance your results.
How many treatments will I need?
Each person is different. Those with mild wrinkles and fine lines may see improvement after one treatment while more advanced skin conditions such as acne scarring may require more than one session. The number of sessions will be determined during consultation with our skin specialists.
